Over the Edge looks down the Nā Pali Coast from an aerial position near Honopū Beach.
From the water or trail, the cliffs are experienced primarily as enormous vertical walls.
From above, their structure changes.
Green ridges separate into long folds. Valleys open between them. Beaches become small markers of scale along the coast below.
That shift in vantage is what interested Lance.
The photograph is less about presenting a famous Kauaʻi coastline than about revealing a spatial organization that is difficult to understand from conventional viewpoints.
At approximately 80 million pixels, the source file retains fine information across an extremely complex landscape.
The small beaches, vegetation, ridge texture and coastline remain visible enough to support substantial enlargement.
Although made on Kauaʻi rather than Maui, Over the Edge belongs clearly within Lance's broader practice: unusual access used to make a familiar environment behave differently inside the frame.
