I've walked this stretch of South Maui coastline countless times, but getting above Kalepolepo changed it completely.
From the beach, your eye naturally travels toward the horizon. From the air, everything reorganizes. Sand becomes shape. Shallow water shifts through layers of color. Dark reef starts drawing patterns beneath the surface that are almost impossible to appreciate from shore.
That change in perspective is one of the things I love most about photography. I can know a place well and still find a position where it suddenly feels new again.
From across the room, Another Day In Paradise reads quickly—coast, water, color. Come closer and it starts breaking apart. Reef appears beneath the shallows. Rock interrupts the sand. Small changes in depth create colors you might have missed in the larger view.
That's usually what I'm chasing: the photograph that gives you the whole scene first, then rewards you for walking toward it.
A familiar shoreline becomes something entirely different from above.

Another Day In Paradise is an aerial photograph of Kalepolepo Beach in Kīhei, South Maui, where pale sand, shallow water, reef and shoreline separate into distinct bands of color and texture. The elevated viewpoint changes a familiar beach into a more graphic coastal study: translucent water reveals variations in depth, darker reef interrupts the shallows, and the edge between land and ocean becomes a strong compositional line. The work remains recognizable as Maui while showing relationships that are difficult to see from ground level.
Lance Ehrecke uses aerial perspective throughout his photographic practice to make familiar places behave differently inside the frame. Here, the technical value lies less in spectacle than in the amount of coastal information preserved across the image. At larger physical sizes, small reef structures, rocks, water texture and transitions in the sand remain visible, allowing the photograph to work first as a broad South Maui landscape and then as a closer study of shoreline detail.
