Cascading Tears was photographed from a doors-off helicopter above the Valley of Tears in the West Maui Mountains. From the air, the mountain is no longer experienced as a single wall rising overhead. Multiple folds of terrain become visible at once, while narrow waterfalls descend through darker ridges and vegetation as bright lines across the landscape. The fading light preserves strong contrast between moving water and the shadowed valley around it.
Aerial access is central to the photograph because it reveals a spatial relationship that is difficult to understand from the ground. Lance Ehrecke kept the darker mountain structure intact rather than lifting every shadow into equal brightness. That choice lets the waterfalls establish the first read while ridges, vegetation, drainage lines and smaller terrain features emerge more slowly. The high-resolution source supports substantial enlargement, making the work increasingly complex as viewing distance decreases.
The photograph is offered as an open edition and produced to order in the presentation and size selected on the product page. Current presentation choices include Acrylic, Aluminum and Canvas, with framing options shown by configuration. For collectors considering a larger wall, MFAC can also help compare scale and placement before production.
