Coastal Charisma is one of Lance's Kapalua photographs where elevation fundamentally changes what the course becomes.
From Hole 11 of the Plantation Course, the camera looks beyond the green landscape toward Honolua Bay below and Molokaʻi much farther out.
Those different distances stack inside one composition.
Course geometry occupies the foreground.
Coastline and reef sit below it.
Ocean and island extend the field much farther.
Rather than isolating the golf hole from its surroundings, Lance uses the elevated position to show why this course feels so inseparable from northwest Maui's geography.
This is the same instinct that appears throughout his larger practice: change the camera position and a familiar subject starts revealing relationships that are difficult to appreciate from the ordinary viewpoint.
The finished print retains enough information throughout those different distances for course, bay, reef and larger geography to remain individually legible at scale.
