THE WORK

Aloha. This is The Commoner. I carved it from Milo, a wood from Maui. Milo is a really nice wood. It is strong, almost stronger than Koa.

This sculpture represents the commoner, a regular, normal person. You can see the nose. You can see the two hands holding his head. It is a regular, normal person screaming: I am a normal human being.

I worked on this sculpture for three months at least, three or four months. It is work.

I finish my sculptures with oil, not varnish. People say the energy is inside the sculpture and it needs to come out. If you block it with varnish, you cannot feel it. My sculptures, you always need to touch them and feel the energy inside. This one has 12 to 16 or 18 coats of oil, and the finish is 3,000 grit.

The interpretation is always free. You can dream about it, and maybe one day we can talk about it.

I hope you enjoy it. Mahalo.
