We love to venture off the beaten path as well! Let's create something truly inspiring together.
Molokini Serenade looks across open water toward Molokini Crater with Kahoʻolawe positioned much farther beyond it.
The photograph is fundamentally about distance.
Molokini occupies the immediate middle ground, while Kahoʻolawe sits far enough away that atmospheric conditions would normally begin removing substantial information.
On this evening, the clarity was strong enough for Lance to retain surprisingly fine detail across that separation.
That gives the photograph two distinct ways to be experienced.
From across the room, it is a broad relationship between ocean, crater, island and sky.
At close range, the image becomes a demonstration of how much information survived through the distance.
This is one reason extreme resolution matters in Lance's work.
The number of pixels is not the story by itself.
The value is what that information makes possible when the photograph becomes physically large.
The print can hold both the broad scene and small distant features without asking one to replace the other.
