Editions & finishes

How photographic and editioned works become physical objects.

The edition

The image may be the beginning, but the edition defines what the collector is acquiring.

MFAC identifies whether a work is an original, an open edition, a limited edition, an artist proof, or another artist-defined format.

We do not imply scarcity that does not exist.

Selected photographic editions are produced by WhiteWall, MFAC's current fine-art production partner.

Specifications vary by work and presentation; the artwork page states what is available for the piece you are considering.

WhiteWall technical information

Acrylic

Acrylic presentation can produce depth, contrast and clarity, particularly for highly detailed photography and larger work.

The image is professionally produced and mounted beneath acrylic with a rigid backing, so the photograph itself remains dominant.

Often suited to high-detail photography, panoramas, strong contrast and architectural-scale presentation.

Ask us about the current specification for a particular piece.

Aluminum

Aluminum presentation offers a lighter, contemporary profile with strong color and durability.

It can be particularly effective for larger photographic work where a clean edge and relatively low visual weight are important.

Ask us which production method is current for the work you are considering.

Fine art paper

For collectors who prefer a more traditional relationship between photograph, paper and frame, selected photographic works can be presented as fine-art paper prints using archival materials.

Availability depends on the artist and the piece.

Framing

Frame options vary by work and presentation.

For selected photographic work, current wide-frame terminology is:

Wide Gallery Frame
Wide Gallery Frame + Border

Ask MFAC which profiles are available for the piece you are considering.

Canvas

Canvas is available for selected photographic works where the texture and lower reflectivity suit the image and intended space.

MFAC does not recommend every finish for every photograph. Ask us which presentation best serves the particular work.

VISUALIZATION

Architectural scale

For selected photographic work, MFAC can coordinate large-scale fine-art fabrication through its production partners.

Exact dimensions, file review, presentation, freight and installation are confirmed before fabrication so the scale serves the work and the architecture around it.
