From the ground, the holes are experienced sequentially.
From above, multiple fairways, bunkers, contours and connections can be read at once while the surrounding Kapalua landscape provides a much larger context.
For Lance, that is the difference between simply documenting a golf course and using perspective to reorganize it.
The course becomes geometry.
Paths and fairways connect. Elevation changes become visible. Designed land can be read in relationship to natural terrain, coastline and ocean.
That kind of vantage is central to Lance's broader practice.
The camera moves somewhere ordinary sight usually cannot, and a familiar subject begins behaving differently.
